Former bin Laden driver to be transferred from Guantanamo

Osama bin LadenWashington  - Osama bin Laden's former driver and bodyguard will be moved from the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Yemen, where he will serve out the remainder of his sentence, CNN reported Monday.

Salim Ahmed Hamdan was convicted of providing material support to terrorism in August and sentenced to five years and six months in prison, but the military judge included the years he had already spent in Guantanamo.

Hamdan, 37, was the second conviction under the commissions. Australian David Hicks pleaded guilty in 2007 and was sent back to his native country to serve out the remainder of his sentence. He is now free.

CNN did not identify the sources used in the report. (dpa)
