Jet set to cancel flight to San Francisco
The global slowdown also hit the aviation sector. Many leading air lines are facing the heat of slowdown due to decrease in number of customers. The largest private airline Jet Airways (India) has decided to cancel Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco flights from January 13. The service was launched before seven months. However, the chief commercial officer of the company said that Jet has temporarily suspended the airline and company would not suspend any other flight. Jet had also decreased the frequency of flights to five times a week in order to cut losses in August.
The airline would serve the San Francisco-bound traffic through its London gateway with the help of partner airlines. The airline has a partnership with United Airlines to connect Mumbai and several US destinations via London. Jet runs flights to 64 international destinations to cover major international cities such as New York, Toronto, Brussels, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Kuala Lumpur, Colombo, Bangkok and Kathmandu.
Meanwhile, Kingfisher Airline has also delayed its plans to start flights between Mumbai -London and Mumbai-Hong Kong due to global financial crisis. Kingfisher had started its foreign operations in September 2008 and the flights were to launch in this month.
