Traditional Methods Should Be Encouraged To Ease The Plight Of Indian Farmers

The increasing rate of suicides being committed by the farmers Traditional Methods Should Be Encouraged To Ease The Plight Of Indian Farmersin India has shocked the whole world, and with a deep concern, Prince Charles of Britain recently tried to opined that the reason behind the agony of the Indian farmers is the use of “Genetically Modified (GM) farming techniques”. The British Prince stressed on the use of traditional methods of farming, since the failure of GM crops varieties in India has added to the worsening conditions for the farmers.

During his speech for Navdanya, an Indian environmental group, the Prince informed, “I believe fundamentally that unless we work with nature... we will fail to restore the equilibrium we need in order to survive on this planet.”

Though the suicides among farmers in India was prevalent even before the GM crops were introduced, the rate of suicide has increased subsequently. According to some campaigners, after the farmers were forced to buy the expensive GM crop seeds, which proved to be unsuccessful at producing a beneficial yield, the farmers situation really worstened. But some agricultural biotechnology companies have contradicted this notion.

Just less than two moths ago, the prince, in an interview had claimed that GM crops impose a great risk to the environment. At that point of time no one adhered to his advice and he was criticized for what was then thought to be a “biased baloney”.
