Happy 50th Birthday To Microchip

Microchip, a highly developed integrated circuit, used in almost all modern electronic gadgets and gizmos completed 50 years on last Friday.

The first chip, displayed by Jack Kilby of Texas Instruments, on September 12, 1958, had a germanium strip, one transistor and other components, fixed on a piece of glass.

Working on circuit design problem, "tyranny of numbers", Kilby observed that a number of components can be put on a single piece of semiconductor. Without a doubt, invention of chips and microchips is a boon to the modern world.
