Monsoon Session of Assam Assembly commences
Guwahati, July14 : The five-day Monsoon Session of the Assam Legislative Assembly began in Dispur today.
The entire opposition led by the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) raised an adjournment motion today alleging that the Congress-Bodo People''s Front (BPF) Government has failed to maintain law and order and protect the lives of the common people in the State.
The Speaker Tanka Bahadur Rai reserved his ruling on the adjournment motion, following which the opposition members belonging to AGP, Asom United Democratic Front, Bharatiya Janata Party, Communist Party of India and Communist Party of India-Marxist came out to the floor of the House and started to shout slogans in front of the Speaker''s Chair.
The opposition members also demanded a high-level enquiry by a sitting High Court Judge into the death of a CPI leader in police atrocities in Morigaon District recently.
In spite of the bedlam, the Speaker continued the business of the House amidst slogan shouting by the opposition members.
Several reports of the Government, a Bill on Guwahati Water bodies (Preservation and Conservation) and Supplementary demands were placed in the House amidst the noisy scene. (ANI)
