German holiday traffic causes long tailback at Austrian tunnel

Jurist, 44, set to take over Germany's top judicial postBerlin - German holidaymakers generated a 30-kilometre tailback at the Tauern road tunnel in Austria Saturday, German media reported.

The tailback began to build up early Saturday and no relief was expected as a second wave of holidaymakers were set to leave the southern German state of Bavaria Saturday afternoon.

The tunnel in the state of Salzburg was the scene of a major accident and subsequent fire in 1999 in which 12 people died and 50 were hurt. (dpa)
