Aircel Backs Out Its Name From COAI Petition

AIRCELNew Delhi: Aircel, mobile operator, has decided to back out its name from the ongoing court case between different GSM mobile operators and the Department of Telecom (DoT), filed by industry body COAI, at the Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT).

COAI challenges the decision taken by the administration to permit dual technology and higher subscriber-based spectrum allocation norm.

Rohit Chand, Aircel executive said, “This is a matter of shareholders and any further query should be directed to our majority shareholder maxis.”

Mr. Chand stated that Aircel has already submitted an application in TDSAT for pulling back its name from the appeal.

Despite taking out its name from the petition, Aircel would remain COAI’s helping hand, Mr. Chand said.

“We will not like to comment on the issue further because it is a shareholder issue,” he added.

T V Ramachandran, COAI Director-General was not there for comments over this development.

The DoT’s decision of exponential increase in subscriber base, and to avail additional spectrum to GSM and CDMA operators under single license have depressed the existing GSM mobile operators.

COAI also told that it would file more than one affidavit in the TDSAT soon on the TEC statement that further improved subscriber base for spectrum allocation.
