Four Drinks A Day Boosts Mouth Cancer Risk In Men – A Study

A new study carried out by Cancer Institute of New South Wales has Four Drinks A Day Boosts Mouth Cancer Risk disclosed that four alcoholic drinks per day raises the risk of developing bowel, throat and mouth cancer in men.

The study also mentioned that women, who have two standard alcoholic drinks on a daily basis increases their risk of having breast cancer by up to 22 per cent and mouth cancer by 75 per cent.

Ms Verity Firth, New South Wales Assistant Health Minister said, “In fact, alcohol consumption is a significant risk factor for a number of cancers, including those of the breast, bowel, throat and mouth.”

Unnecessary consumption of alcohol regularly may be responsible for 30 to 50 per cent of all cancers of the upper-respiratory tract and more than one-third of all liver cancers.

Around eight drinks a day raised the risk at any site by 90 per cent.

It's a very common disease and people should understand that they can lessen the cancer risk by looking at the preventable risk factors such as alcohol and tobacco particularly.

The National Health and Medical Research Council suggested that men and women if want to taste the alcohol, they should not consume more than one drink a day.

Guidelines on safe alcohol consumption will be released by National Health and Medical Research Council in June.
