According to an official of the St. Louis County Board of Elections, activists who were determined to recall the mayor of Ferguson, Missouri did not get enough support for their attempt.

According to the official, Eric Fey, the activists' petition against Mayor James Knowles did not have the needed signatures; it fell short by approximately 800 names.

Fey said that the petition required 1,814 signatures, however only collected 1,008 valid names.

The death of Brown, an unarmed, African-American who was killed by former Officer Darren Wilson last August, led to unrest among people. The incident drew attention of electoral politics in the small community of St. Louis. Knowles denied replying to residents' calls for his resignation after the unrest.

According to the Post-Dispatch, Knowles said that they are aware of the rights of the petitioners and their recall efforts. Knowles added, "But for as long as I am mayor, I will continue to work with council and staff to bring together the citizens of Ferguson, and to move our community forward with the many reforms and initiatives that we have been working on for several months".

According to a leader of Ground Level Support, he would not stop recalling the mayor. Tony Rice, its leader said that the group has 10 more days for producing the rest of the signatures. He added that it is difficult to produce eight hundred but they will definitely try. Ground Level Support is the group that demanded Knowles' recall.
