Two cups of coffee a day decreases erectile dysfunction risk
A new study conducted on 4,000 men has found that two cups of coffee can perk up the performance of the man in bedroom and reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Researchers have found that men who had two cups of coffee were 42% less likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction. The number further fell to 39% in the case of men who had three cups of coffee.
A previous research found that 18.4% of men who are 20 years and older are suffering from ED to some degree in the United States. This could mean that over 18 million men are affected. Over 85% of adults consume caffeine.
Researchers from the University of Texas carried out the study on around 4,000 men. They noted that the effect was not different no matter whether the subject was overweight, obese or had high blood pressure.
Researchers also noted that there was less effect of coffee on men with diabetes, as those suffering from diabetes generally have high risk of erectile dysfunction.
For the study researchers derived the information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey.
David Lopez, a professor at University of Texas, Houston, Texas, said, "Even though we saw a reduction in the prevalence of erectile dysfunction with men who were obese, overweight and hypertensive, that was not true of men with diabetes".
Researchers mentioned that caffeine in coffee leads to a chain of pharmacological effects. These effects increase a man's blood flow to his penis as they relax various arteries as well as the muscle.
Another research found that intake of coffee can increase a women's sex drive. The research team discovered that caffeine increase female libido in female rats by stimulating the section of rodents' brain, controlling arousal.
Texas researchers have concluded that a similar effect to the one above can be recreated in human beings, drinking coffee not on a regular basis.
