McDonald’s expects global sales to remain flat in October

McDonaldGlobal retailing gait, McDonald's has warned that global sales at its restaurants will remain flat during the month of October and the slowdown would continue during the fourth quarter due to higher competition and slowing economic recovery.

Company's chief executive, Donald Thompson has shaken up the top management and has also changed menus to boost sales and profitability. The company reported a rise of 4.6 per cent in earnings while sales rose 2.4 per cent. The company has recorded disappointing figures during the previous four quarters.

The world's biggest fast-food chain recently announced new "Mighty Wings" for a limited time from 9 September and nationwide from 29 September, 2013. The new bone-in wings, breaded and seasoned with cayenne and chili pepper will be sold at the company's outlets till November. McDonald's Monopoly game promotion and Mighty Wings limited-time offer helped increase sales in the US market.

Global sales at McDonald's restaurants open at least 13 months rose 0.9 per cent in the third quarter, which is just lower than analyst expectations for the company. The company's third-quarter net income rose to $1.52 billion, or $1.52 a share, from $1.46 billion, or $1.43 a share, a year earlier.
