Domino’s Pizza record strong growth in the UK
Domino's Pizza has said that it has recorded strong growth in sales during the third quarter in the UK and indicated that it would revive its expansion plans for the German market.
The US pizza chain said that like-for-like sales across its 669 mature UK stores rose more than four per cent during 13 weeks to 29 September. The growth is lower than 6.4 per cent growth reported in the first half when the new profits such as hot-dog stuffed crust helped increase sales. The Year-to-date like-for-like sales in the UK rose 5.6m per cent.
The company said that the Britain's warm weather from July to September affected sales as people ordered lesser pizza's at home. The total system sales for the third quarter rose to £140.9 million from £127.6 million recorded during the same period of the previous year. The company is now indicating that it is aiming to revive its growth plans for Germany after announcing a slowdown in its plans.
The company lost £3.2million from its 25 stores in Germany during the previous six years and also wrote down £11 million from the value of its operations in the country. Due to the write down in Germany, the global pizza giant's profits fell 46 per cent to £11.6million during the first six months of the year. Chief executive Lance Batchelor had earlier said that he would slow down expansion plans in Germany but has not indicated that the expansion plans are back on track for the country.
