Special team created by NYPD for recovering stolen Apple devices

Special team created by NYPD for recovering stolen Apple devicesWith the `Apple devices theft' scenario going from bad to worse in New York City, a special team of dedicated police officials has recently been formed by the New York Police Department (NYPD) to recover the stolen iPhones and iPads.

According to New York Post report about the creation of a special tem by the NYPD, the officials who are a part of the dedicated team will essentially work in cooperation with Apple to track down the criminals who steal iDevices.

Expecting the partnership with Apple to result in the nabbing of the criminals who steal and resell the popular Apple devices, the New York City police officers have started sharing the unique identifying numbers of stolen iDevices with the company; a move which, as per the New York Post report, will help track the location of a stolen Apple device, irrespective of the wireless provider to which the device is registered.

With an NYPD report revealing that there has been a 40 percent increase in the number of thefts involving Apple's devices in the last eight months, the special team created by the NYPD will track down the stolen devices with the help of unique identifying numbers, called International Mobile Station Equipment Identity numbers.

With regard to the creation of the special team, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne told the Post: "We're looking for ways to find individuals who have stolen Apple products and return the products to their original owners."
