Updated Half-Life version, Black Mesa, to be released on September 14
On September 14, the much-awaited Black Mesa title – which essentially is the refreshed version of the classic Half-Life – will finally be released, nearly eight years after the development of the game commenced in 2004.
Black Mesa is the upgraded as well as expanded version of Half-Life, and has reportedly been created using a modern engine for the overhauling of the graphics and gameplay. Incidentally, the coding of the updated game was done using the programming tools which were offered by Valve, the company which was the original developer of Half-Life.
As was being widely expected, the forthcoming Black Mesa game – which gives players the control of Half-Life protagonist Gordon Freeman - boasts notably-enhanced graphics, engrossing environmental effects and a much-transformed storyline, in which the slow and monotonous aspects pertaining to the original title have been eliminated.
According to the information shared by the Black Mesa project leader Carlos Montero, the development team will be making a shorter version of Black Mesa - a homebrew mod of Half-Life 2 – available as soon as it is ready; though it will still continue working on “Xen (a chapter in the game) and BMDM (Black Mesa Deathmatch).”
Noting that Black Mesa is re-envisioned Half-Life “all the way up to Lambda Core,” a recent post on the Black Mesa forums said: “We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.”
