RIM begins showing its new BlackBerry to wireless carriers worldwide
Despite the fact that BlackBerry-maker Research In Motion (RIM) claims to be still ‘months away’ from the launch of its much-delayed new BlackBerry handsets, the Canada-based smartphone-maker has, nonetheless, started showing the new smartphones to wireless carriers worldwide.
Revealing that the RIM executives held meetings with wireless companies to give them a peek at the new BlackBerry 10 OS-powered smartphones which are critical to the survival of the struggling company, Andrew McLeod - managing director of RIM’s Canadian operations – said in a Thursday statement that the wireless carriers had given a ‘positive’ feedback.
Further adding that RIM is currently involved in the process of finalizing the software for the new BlackBerry handsets, McLeod said that the company intends commencing discussions with the carriers shortly, regarding the launch of the handsets as well as other business aspects.
About the software of the new BlackBerry smartphones, McLeod said the BlackBerry 10 OS was presently at a stage where RIM is confident that it could “really demonstrate the validity of the products and software.”
However, with the likely timeline for the launch of the software now being pushed to the 2013 first quarter, and the new BlackBerry to miss the holiday season this year, McLeod said: “Obviously you don’t want to show something that is not going to wow folks”; and added that the wireless carriers “were excited with what they saw.”
