PMC Joins Hands with IBM For Better Health ServicesIBM has declared its novel project with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), on May 3, to begin an incorporated surveillance system that would track not just outbreaks but a comprehensive data management on healthcare delivery, services as well as illnesses.

While Pune Municipal Corporation already amasses facts on communicable illnesses, the novel plan would gather data on other diseases to assist discover budding trends and threats to public wellbeing.

Mr. Anup Yadava, PMC additional municipal commissioner stated that the project consists of the formation of a blueprint for establishing a surveillance system to deal with vital issues associated to public health of citizens.

Dr. ST Pardeshi, PMC's chief medical officer stated, "The company would collect data from PMC records and hospitals related to epidemics, non- communicable and lifestyle diseases, hospital facilities, etc. This data would be collated and studied by IBM's team that would help us in understanding which areas in healthcare need urgent attention and solutions as well."

The project would particularly concentrate on vulnerable components such as old persons, pregnant females and amass appropriate facts on maternal and infant death, geriatric healthcare from diverse sources, etc.

Mamta Sharma, head of corporate citizenship and corporate affairs, IBM India stated, "At the moment, the PMC is doing surveillance but what it requires from us is an integrated system that tracks not just epidemic and emergencies but complete data. The PMC officials are desirable to have an outside view from a global leader on current practices adopted and an action plan on how things can be bettered."

Pune has been selected for the grant as a part of IBM's Smarter Cities Challenge Grant for 2012. The global program has picked 33 cities crosswise the world for the grant comprising Pune and Ahmedabad this year from India.
