Former CJI Verma wants Balakrishnan to resign
One day following the making of the revelation by the Income Tax Department regarding the kin of ex-Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the current National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) chairperson K G Balakrishnan owning “black money”, ex CJI J S Verma told Balakrishnan to quit his position of the NHRC head on Sunday.
Verma is famous for his frankness while discussing the matter concerning corruption in judiciary as well as judicial accountability. He has told that, if Balakrishnan didn’t submit the resignation on his own, there will be an intervention by the President for removing him from his office.
Verma has also added that he was of the opinion that Balakrishnan must resign on his own, and if he said that the made accusations were false, then it is up to him to prove them wrong as mere silence is in no way an option for him. He has said this on being asked to give a reaction to the allegations made by the I-T department.
When asked about the options for government, if Balakrishnan did not resign on his own, Verma has commented that at that time the President must intervene and take suitable action.
