London, Mar 24: During his short stint in Afghanistan as a forward air controller, Prince Harry showed exemplary co-ordinating skills in launching jet attacks, with the American forces, on the Taliban who were attacking Gurkhas on the outskirts of south Helmand town Garmsir.

In the capacity of Household Cavalry officer, Harry killed as many as 30 Taliban by bringing in three air strikes.

The American fighter pilots, who realised they were talking to the Prince only after he was evacuated from Afghanistan, praised him for his expert handling of air strikes. Senior officers at the Windsor-based regiment rated him as an excellent soldier since he joined them from Sandhurst 18 months ago.

According to The Sun, they said the royal showed "extraordinarily high skill" in coordinating jet attacks on Taliban positions.

In his very first task as a forward air controller, the 23-year-old Army lieutenant ordered two F-15 Strike Eagles to take out an enemy trench line with 500lb bombs, said the paper.

"It was a standard troops-in-contact call and we checked in with him. His accent didn't give him away because we're used to working with the British. But the item that did stand out at the time was the extraordinarily high skill of the person coordinating the attack," the paper quoted USAF Captain Ben Donberg, who led the pair of two-seater F15s, as saying.

The Captain added: "In fact everybody in that sortie, all four of us, once we got down, we all commented on the proficiency and the skill he was providing us."

Harry was evacuated four weeks early once news of his presence in Afghanistan broke. (ANI)
