Computer algorithms to create flu vaccines

Computer algorithms to create flu vaccinesResearchers claim that the usage, of computer programs help create a faster and efficient mode of vaccine development in case of new strains of flu viruses.

Dimitris Papamichail, and colleagues from Stony Brook University have designed algorithms that will help in development of viruses that may prove it to be live vaccines which help in synthesis specifications and this method is termed as Synthetic Attenuated Virus Engineering (SAVE).

Through this approach researchers made a synthetic genome of the virus containing hundreds of changes to its genetic code.

The algorithms claim that the best approach that comes in for synthetic genome helps in many ways in detecting the specs of wild-type genome, but in lesser quantities.

“The probability of all the changes reverting themselves to produce a virulent strain is extremely unlikely,” Papamichail adds.

The findings are posted in Nature Biotechnology.
