Four peacekeepers from South Africa freed after two weeks in Sudan
The United Nations has said that four peacekeepers from South Africa, held for two weeks in Sudan's Darfur region, were released Monday.
The U. N. said in a release that the two men and two women, members of the joint African Union-U. N. Mission in Darfur, are to be flown home to be reunited with their families after undergoing medical examinations.
It was further noted by the report that the four were abducted April 11 while returning to their private quarters from their team site in Nyala. Details about the peacekeepers' captors and their release were not provided.
U. N. mission representative Ibrahim Gambari said, "We are grateful to have our colleagues back with us. I am proud of the courage and resilience displayed by our colleagues throughout these trying circumstances." (With Inputs from Agencies)
