Pills in vogue as condom rules out
As the Delhi statistical handbook suggests, the usage of condoms as contraceptives has declined significantly and pills are catching up fast as the alternative.
The survey found that condoms though are still the most preferred option for contraceptive amongst Delhites, the oral pills are catching faster as an effective alternative. The results revealed that asking for condom has declined from 1,23,77,000 in 2006-07 to 94,76,000 in 2008-09, on the other hand the demand for oral pills, rose from 1,19,549 in 2006-07 to 1,81,412 in 2008-09.
The data was obtained from various government hospitals, health centers and chemist shops across the city.
The health officials believed that it was heartening that penchant for oral pills have seen a high over condoms. They also said that it's good as long as women do not use emergency contraceptive pills instead of regular ones.
