Australia wins against India in Hockey WC

HockeyAustralia won against the hosts, India in their second match in the ongoing Hero Honda Hockey World Cup in Delhi. The match ended with the score 5-2 in favor of Australia.

The Indian team even though lost the match, showed a good fighting spirit against the tough Australian side. The support for the team remained even after it lost the game. The team ranked No. 12 in world showed a fight back after the game was 3-0 in favor of the team ranked No. 2.

India team if had scored on many opportunities in both the halves the game result would have been very different. The Australian team was prepared to win after it lost its first match against England and they started by scoring a goal in the second minute.

The team was in difficult position with the absence of Shivendra Singh, who has received a ban. The Australian side took advantage of the weak defence and managed a 3-0 lead and as it was a minute before the half-time, the Indian player Vikram Pillay took the pass from Gurbaz Singh and scored the first for India.

Gurwinder Chandi missed an opportunity to score as he tried to pass the ball when he was inside the circle instead to hitting at the goal.

The second half started again with Australian attacking, as they scored 2 goals in the first seven minutes. The score was now heavily one sided at 5-1 however Indian players saw the time to catch up. The Indian team did not fall bank to the defence. Arjun Halappa tackled four defenders to pass the ball to Rajpal who scored the second.

The score was 5-2 and the game was to go on for 15 minute. An attempt by the Australian player, Jamie Dwyer was stopped by Goalkeeper Adrian D'Souza who dived on the right to save the goal.

The crowds at the stadium were very supportive of their team even after it lost.
