Loss of US contract hits BAE

bae-systemsBAE Systems PLC reported a net loss for 2009 due to impairments, regulatory penalties, financing adjustments and loss of key US contract.

Company lost the deal of truck building for US army amounted to £973 million and also paid a fine of £278 million as fine by the US Department of justice and senior fraud officer against the charge of bribery and fraud investigation.

Company reported a net loss of 67 million pounds during the quarter against the profit of 1.75 billion for the same period of previous financial year. Sales of the company reported an increase of 21 percent due to growth in the three out of four units.

BAE has expanded its base in the countries like India, South Africa and Australia and recent acquisitions in the U. S., the world's biggest defence market, include United Defense Industries Inc., producer of the Bradley Fighting Vehicle has strengthen the market share of the company.

According to the company, "Defence budgets in both the UK and the US are expected to come under further pressure, and with expectations of a more challenging business environment ahead, the focus on driving performance and efficiency in the business will be the key."
