Sachin Tendulkar Gets Notice From Navi Mumbai Cess Dept
The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has sent a notice to ace Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar as he had not paid cess on a deluxe car purchased by him.
Mahavir Pendhari, NMMC's deputy municipal commissioner (Cess) stated, "We found that we have not received cess on over one lakh vehicles that are registered at the Navi Mumbai RTO. We got the addresses of the owners and have sent them legal notices."
The list of offenders comprises singer Shankar Mahadevan, Tripura Governor DY Patil and many big names from the corporate world including Reliance.
People of Mumbai have purchased cars via Mumbai dealers but got registered them in adjacent RTOs including Thane and Navi Mumbai because cess in Navi Mumbai is just 1% of the car's cost.
In Mumbai, it is 5.5%.
According to NMMC, the overall dues due to non-payment of vehicle cess stood at Rs 50 crore.
Just about 15 days ago according to a report released by the Union Finance Ministry, Sachin had paid Rs 1.5 crore for the October-December quarter as income tax.
NMMC is forwarding notices to all car possessors, who have breached payment rules.
