Somdev to clash with Rainer in Chennai Open
India’s no. 1 Somdev Devvarman will lock horns with Rainer Schuettler of Germany in the first round of $400,000 Chennai Open tennis tournament starting from Monday.
The 24-year old Somdev and Rainer had met each other in the semifinal of the Chennai Open last year where Rainer had pulled out due to injury. Somdev had lost to Marin Cilic of Croatia in the title round last year.
Rohan Bopanna will face third seeded Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland in first round. The 21st ranked Stanislas, who had thrashed his compatriot Roger Federer in the Rolex Masters Cup last year, will be tough opponent for the 29-year old Banglorean.
The draw of the Chennai Open was released on Saturday and both Somdev and Bopanna have received wild card entries in the tournament while Robin Soderling of Sweden is seeded first in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Soderling will start his campaign with match against Robby Ginepri of the US. The former French Open champion Carlos Moya has also got wild card entry and he will take on fourth seeded Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia in the first round match.
