Bengal crashes out of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Syed-Mushtaq-Ali-TrophyBengal has crashed out of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy after losing their third consecutive match as Orissa has defeated Bengal by seven wickets in a thriller at the Railway Stadium in Dhanbad on Friday.

Orissa scored 147 for five in their allotted 20 overs after electing to bat first in the East Zone league match. Pravanjan Mullick (unbaten 34) was top scorer for Orissa while Alok Sahu smashed 32 quick runs in just 17 balls.

Chasing target of 148 runs, Bengal was once looking to register a convincing win with 121 runs on the board for loss of four wickets in the 18th over. But, Orissa bowlers restricted Bengal to 140 runs for five in 20 overs.

Dibyendu Chakrabarty (37) and Laxmi Ratan Shukla (28) played well but could not lead their team to victory. Paresh Patel claimed 3 wickets for 29 runs in his four overs. Orissa now have a total of eight points from three matches.
