Chicago "gratified" by report on its bid to host Games
Washington - Chicago expressed satisfaction with a report released Wednesday by the International Olympic Committee examining the mid-western city's bid to host the 2016 Summer Games.
"We are particularly gratified to see that the Evaluation Commission recognizes our vision and overall concept for hosting the Games," said Patrick G Ryan, the chairman and CEO of Chicago 2016.
Chicago is competing with Madrid, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo as finalists to host the Games. A final announcement is expected on October 2 in Copenhagen.
The IOC Evaluation Commission's report assessed the capability of the cities to host the Games on issues ranging from, among other, finances to facilities and public transportation, as well as local enthusiasm.
Overall, the commission concluded that all four candidates were of a very high quality, but also pointed out shortcomings for each metropolis. In the case of Chicago, the report was critical of the lack of guarantees from the US government to carry any possible losses the Olympics encounter. dpa
