Poland's GDP up 1.1 per cent, beating expectations

Poland's GDP up 1.1 per cent, beating expectations Warsaw  - Poland's gross domestic product increased by 1.1 per cent year-on-year in the second quarter, the Central Statistical Office said Friday, a figure that beat the .5 per cent expected growth.

The growth was supported mainly by net exports and by total consumption expenditure, the office said in a statement.

Poland has fared better than much of Europe in the face of the financial crisis and was the only country in the red among eastern members of the European Union when it reported a .8 per cent rise in GDP during the first quarter of 2009. (dpa)
