Washington  - The US economy shrank 1 per cent in the second quarter of the year, according to a more complete government estimate Thursday that was unchanged from its original prediction last month.

The Commerce Department's estimate was better than economists had expected, according to a survey by Bloomberg News, and further signalled that the economy should be on its way out of recession in the coming months.(dpa)
