Number of foster carers fails to meet number of children needing foster care
The number of people willing to take responsibility of giving foster care to a child in need is very less as compared to the number children who need such care.
According to data, 378 children needed foster carers in the South East last year but with only 42 foster care households it was impossible to give these children a family atmosphere.
Children need foster carers when they can't live at the home anymore. Some problems in the family like domestic violence, neglect, breakdown, emotional, physical, sexual, drug or alcohol abuse make home an inappropriate place for the child.
Rob Foggo, Ac. care chief executive officer said: "Foster carers are everyday members of the community who make an extraordinary contribution through their commitment to care for and meet the needs of vulnerable children and young people."
Ac. care is planning to motivate people to recruit themselves as foster carers during foster carers' week. A person willing to play the part of a foster carer must have inbuilt urge to care for the children and ability to meet the short-term and long-term needs of vulnerable children and young people.
A foster carer must be over the age of 25 along with other qualities of head and heart. Foster carer could be single or married, with or without children but he/she should possess maturity and loving heart to take care of the child.
