Court allows CBI To Conduct Tests On Ramalinga Raju
In a major move, a CBI court on Thursday permitted the CBI to conduct forensic, lie-detector and brain mapping tests on Satyam founder B Ramalinga Raju and two other accused in the case.
The designated court asked the investigating agency to complete the tests within eight weeks and submit its report to the court.
The court allowed the Defence counsel to be present during the conduct of tests on the Satyam founder, his brother and former Managing Director B Rama Raju and former Chief Financial Officer V Srinivas.
The court instructed that the Defense counsel should be informed in a day in advance on the nature of tests to be conducted on the three accused.
While talking with the media persons, a senior police official said: "Though the lie-detection and brain-mapping tests (also known as polygraph tests) are not admissible as evidence in a court of law, they are of immense help to the investigation agencies to establish the character of an accused by indicating whether he is lying in the interrogation."
The CBI, which had filed its charge sheet within 90 days of arrest in April, had sought the court's permission to conduct these tests to unravel the magnitude of the diversion of funds from Satyam to other front companies by the scam-tainted company.
It is learnt that CBI will conduct the tests in Forensic Science Laboratory in Hyderabad.
It may be recalled that in August 2008, Ramalinga Raju, Satyam's Founder and Chairman - resigned from the company after confessing to country's biggest financial fraud of Rs 7,000 crore and disclosing massive financial irregularities.
