Foreign Players Discarded From Next Season Of Ranji
The Technical Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended discarding the foreign players rule from the next season of the Ranji Trophy championship as BCCI showed lack of interest in hiring foreign player in the tournament last year on Wednesday.
Ranji Trophy teams hired young players including under-19 players while they were also allowed to hire foreign players except Maharashtra, which hired Bangladesh left-arm spinner Enamul Haque (Jr.) with a contract of Rs.25 lakh.
The probable reason behind lack of interest of Ranji teams in hiring the foreign players was the high price they have to pay to those players who have played 10 Tests or 25 one-day internationals for their countries.
Another reason may be that there will be greater pool of choice for the Ranji teams as BCCI has granted an amnesty to 79 ICL players and now they have become eligible for playing in the domestic cricket.
The technical committee also gave their consent to the format for appraisal of pitches for domestic tournaments, and also expressed their concern over the SG Test balls, which have been used in domestic cricket tournaments.
