Jitender enters into bantamweight semifinal
Beijing Olympic Games quarterfinalist Jitender Kumar has entered semifinals of the bantamweight (54kg) category of the Asian Boxing Championship in Zhuhai, China.
Jitender defeated Enkhjargal Iderkhuu of Mongolia in the quarter-finals of the Asian Boxing Championship by 9-4.
With this win, now Jitender is assured to win at least bronze medal in this competition.
Earlier, Jitender used to play in 51 kg category but now he is playing in 54 kg category as he was unable to control his weight.
Chief national coach, G. S. Sandhu said that today's victory in the quarterfinal will help Jitender to adjust him in his new weight category and he defeated a tough opponent today which assured a medal for him in this tournament.
Two other Indians, Jai Bhagwan (60kg) and Dinesh Kumar (81kg) also booked their place in semifinals of their respective weight categories of the Asian Boxing Championship.
