Amsterdam looks for 2028 Olympics locations
Amsterdam - Amsterdam will earmark Olympic locations over the next months in a first step to host the 2028 Games, the city's alderman for public spaces said on Friday.
Amsterdam hopes to land the Games 100 years after hosting the 1928 edition.
Mayor Job Cohen had talked about the plan at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and alderman Maarten van Poelgeest said such Games were for the whole country.
"The scale of the Olympic Games affects the whole of the Netherlands," a report by van Poelgeest was quoted as saying in news reports. "Nevertheless, especially in Amsterdam Olympic locations must be found at an early stage."
Van Poelgeest said that earmarking of the locations for the Olympic stadium, other venues and the athletes' village will take place until the end of the year before more detailed planning is to begin. (dpa)
