Cherie Blair''s step mom to stand for parliament
London, Apr. 11 : Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's step mother-in-law, Steph Booth, is to stand for parliament.
Booth, who is married to Cherie Blair''s actor father Tony Booth, was selected as Labour''s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Calder Valley seat, in West Yorkshire, at a meeting on Thursday evening, reports The Telegraph.
Mrs Booth said it was "a real honour" to be selected.
She said: "I am delighted that Labour Party members have chosen to put their faith in me. As we all know Calder Valley faces big challenges during the current economic difficulties. I will be working hard for everyone who lives here to make sure our communities get all the help they need."
The move comes after sitting Labour MP Chris McCafferty, who has held the seat since 1997, announced last year she would be standing down.
McCafferty said: "I would like to offer my personal endorsement to Steph Booth as the new Labour Party candidate for Calder Valley. I''m absolutely sure Steph will do a tremendous job for the constituency that I have been proud to represent over the last 12 years."
Steph Booth is the fourth wife of Cherie Blair''s father.
The Calder Valley constituency covers a collection of West Yorkshire towns including Todmorden and Brighouse. (ANI)
