Singapore university sees second apparent suicide in a week Singapore  - Singapore's Nanyang Technological University was shaken by a second suspected suicide, days after a final-year student stabbed a lecturer and then jumped to his death.

A 24-year-old male Chinese project officer was found dead in a staff apartment Friday night, the university said in a statement Saturday.

The man was found hanged, a police spokeswoman said.

He graduated from the university's electrical and electronic engineering department last year and worked with a company until he was laid off with a severance package. He had joined the university as a project officer on Monday, it said.

On Monday, a 21-year-old Indonesian student whose scholarship had been terminated stabbed a professor in the lecturer's campus office. The student than killed himself by jumping from a university building.

The professor, 45, suffered injuries to his back and right hand. He has been discharged from hospital. (dpa)
