Schwarzenegger turns on charm at CeBIT computer trade show

Arnold-SchwarzeneggerHanover, Germany - The six-day CeBIT computer trade show began Tuesday in the German city of Hanover with former movie star and current Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger spreading his charm as special guest.

The Gubernator toured the fair, which has honoured his state this year as its partner. Makers of software, computers and communications gears from round the globe show new products at the fair.

Schwarzenegger was accompanied by Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel.

They had jointly inaugurated the annual event the previous evening, with the Austrian-born former muscleman, 61, declaring he was glad to be back in Europe to try out German food and beer.

He won a cheer when he finished his speech with his closing line from The Terminator, "I'll be back. Hasta la vista, Baby."

CeBIT has suffered a 25-per-cent drop in exhibitor numbers this year to 4,300, as the recession drives weaker companies out of business.

The fair has also shifted to a business focus, away from gadgets that appeal to consumers. (dpa)
