Germany reportedly threatened in Islamist video

Germany FlagBerlin - A new Islamist video found on the internet in which a terrorist threatens an attack on Germany was made by a different group to one that surfaced two weeks ago, prosecutors said Wednesday.

The new video appeared to have been made by the Islamic Jihad Union (IJU), a shadowy group based in Pakistan or Afghanistan, a spokesman for the Federal Prosecutor's Office said.

The group is seen by some as effectively taking the place of al-Qaeda as a principal threat to the West.

The video, which appeared on Tuesday, showed six masked men speaking in several languages, the last of which was German, according to the German television channel ARD.

"This year, we've got a few surprise parcels for the occupying powers, since the allies of the occupying powers must always expect our attacks," the German speaker said.

Two weeks ago, German security authorities found a similar video on the internet and reportedly identified the man speaking German on it as a Moroccan-born German national who had been educated at an Islamist secondary school in the Bonn area.

In that video the speaker made a veiled demand for Germany to withdraw its troops serving with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. (dpa)
