South Australia offering tourists chance to star in own commercials
Melbourne, Jan 27 : South Australia Tourism has launched a new business venture, in which tourists are given the chance to star in their own commercials.
The whole business, dubbed as Stars of South Australia, is to promote the state, and it was brought forward by the South Australia Tourism Commission promotion along with STA Travel.
It involves UK residents filming a one-minute video about travelling to SA, and the prize is a trip to South Australia, which is filmed by a professional crew and beamed back to the UK via an online blog.
SATC UK-based marketing manager Neil Saunders said that the promotion was devised to attract the sector, which was still inclined to travel despite the economic downturn.
"It primarily was aimed at the backpackers and adventure market; in the current economic climate, they are a strong market because people will be looking to take a gap year or get away from it," News. com. au quoted Saunders as saying.
There have been more than 300 entries and 27,000 website hits, and Saunders says that he''s now in talks with STA Travel for the promotion to be run annually.
Queensland Tourism recently launched a similar promotion with its "best job in the world", offering a six-month contract to live on and report to the world from Hamilton Island.
"We beat them to the punch by a couple of months," Saunders said.
Brit winning couple Henry Mackintosh and Anna Nesbitt, both 25, went camel riding across the Nullarbor, tasting wines in the Barossa and feeding pelicans on Kangaroo Island during their two-week South Australian trip. (ANI)
