Backdoor contacts restored between Presidency, PPP: Sources
Islamabad, Jan 3: Following the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto, backdoor channel contacts have once again been restored between the Presidency and the PPP, sources have said.
Well-placed sources said that PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim met with a host of leaders including President Pervez Musharraf, however details of the meeting have not been disclosed as yet.
Musharraf, during the meeting with Fahim, expressed his deep and heartfelt condolences over Benazir Bhutto’s death, they added.
Sources quoted Musharraf as saying that the PPP would be taken into confidence during the investigations into Benazir’s killing in Rawalpindi on December 27.
Musharraf assured Fahim that cooperation in the investigations would be sought from foreign experts also.
A host of other issues were discussed with a special focus on the political scenario between them.
Musharraf also assured Fahim that stringent security measures would be provided to the top PPP leadership in future.
The Online quoted sources as saying that Fahim briefed Musharraf on the PPP’s stance on the upcoming elections. (ANI)
