“No plans to force organisations to report data losses,” ICO

David SmithAccording to the recent plans laid out by UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) indicated no hints on reinforcing organisations to report data losses.

Further throwing light on this matter ICO stated that it will be the best suited method to account for losses and take pre-measures to prevent breaches from recurring again.

An official from ICO said, "Changes to the law are ultimately a matter for the government. Should legislation be proposed to compel UK organisations to notify people when a data breach occurs, it must be properly considered before it is introduced in the UK."

David Smith, deputy commissioner at ICO in an Infosec security conference few months back had stated the implementations needed for Data Protection Act in view of European review of directives.

It seems that the planning finally is taking shape as Data Protection Authority of Ireland pronounced that the firms operating in the country are immediately required to report a case of data loss if it pertains to more than 100 individuals.
