Niagara Bottling issues Voluntary Recall of its Bottled Spring Water due to Possible E. coli Contamination

Niagara Bottling has announced that it is voluntarily recalling its spring water bottles from June 10 to 18 at its Allentown and Hamburg facilities owing to possible E. coli contamination.

The company has clarified that they are just recalling its spring water products and not its purified water products. State officials stated that water that the company purchased from Far Away Springs in Schuylkill County was tested positive for E. coli.

Tests on its finished products were not found to be having contamination. The company has also clarified that no case has been reported yet. The affected water was shipped to 11 different states on the east coast, including Maryland, New Hampshire, Virginia, Vermont, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

Niagara brands that are possibly contaminated with E. coli are Acme, Acadia, 7-11, Best Yet, Big Y, Wegman's, Morning Fresh, Nature's Place, Shoprite and Pricerite and Western Beef Blue. The company said that details having information like date on its bottles can help consumers know if their water is affected.

The company has assured that it puts in use filtering and disinfection systems that help remove contamination from the products. The recall has been made as a caution and for the safety of consumers.

Niagara spokesperson Stan Bratskeir said, "This is a voluntary recall. Even if the spring has an issue, none of the water showed any issues in our tests. This affects a regional level".
