Nehwal receives bye in WBC
Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal has received bye in the draw of the World Badminton Championships (WBC), which held yesterday in the national capital, New Delhi. The tournament will kick off from 10th August in Hyderabad.
The sojourn of the sixth seeded Saina till quarterfinal will be easy as she will hardly face any challenge by her weak opponent although in the quarterfinal second seeded Lin Wang of China will lock horns with her.
Saina has been in brilliant form from last few months, and she also won the title of the Indonesian Open last month.
Pullela Gopichand, Saina’s coach, showed confidence on Saina saying that she would definitely make into the semifinals of the tournament, although she would have to beat the second seeded Lin Wang in the quarterfinal.
He added that Saina would overcome the hurdle of Lin, as earlier also she had defeated her and her morale would be high when she will play in the front of the home crowd.
Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell, Badminton World Federation vice-president Paisan Rangsikitpho and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president Suresh Kalmadi. Former All England champion Prakash Padukone were present in the ceremony where draw took place.
