NDMC hikes parking fees

The-New-Delhi-Municipal-CouncilThe New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Wednesday approved new parking fees that seriously higher than what Delhi motorists pay currently.

According to the new parking fees structure, which will take effect from June, a parking a car in an authorized parking lot in areas like Khan Market, Connaught Place and Sarojini Nagar will cost Rs 20 instead for the first hour. It is just double of currently charged Rs 10.

The fee will soar with the increase in the duration of parking. While the first hour of parking will cost Rs 20, parking for two, three and four hours will cost Rs 40, Rs 60 and Rs 80, respectively.

For five hours and above, car owners will have to pay Rs 100.

When contacted, NDMC spokesperson A K Mishra said, "The licence of the current contractors operating parking lots was extended till May. Now, tenders for the parking lots will be renewed. The new rates will be implemented from June."

The NDMC also announced that it would accept land allotment from the Land & Development Office (L&DO) to build a parking complex at Khan Market, but only if L&DO provided land at a subsidized rate.

The council stressed that L&DO should provide land at a subsidized rate to make it financially viable as no part of the parking would be used for commercial activities.
