NCBC plans to review income criterion for creamy layer among OBCs
New Delhi, Apr 28 : Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh told the Rajya Sabha today that the National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) would review the existing income criterion used for determining the creamy layer among the Other Backward Class.
Singh said the Government has issued directions to the central educational institutions to implement the 27 per cent quota for OBCs in admissions from the coming academic session.
He also said that the Government is also considering a proposal to set up new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) under public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
He informed that the Government has asked the Central Universities to examine the desirability of increasing the retirement age of vice-chancellors.
"Some of the Central Universities have amended the relevant statutes, with the approval of the visitor, to increase the age of retirement of their vice-chancellors to 70 years," he added. (ANI)
