Munich rout Oberhausen 5-0 for third-round berth in German cup
Hamburg - Bayern Munich routed second division Rot-Weiss Oberhausen 5-0 on Tuesday to reach the third round of the German Cup.
Philipp Lahm opened the scoring with a deflected effort in the 32nd minute and Mario Gomez headed home eight minutes later.
Daniel van Buyten nodded the third in the 67th, Thomas Mueller was on target in the 70th two minutes after coming on, and van Buyten wrapped up matters in the 86th, with another header.
"We moved the ball around fast and realized that some of them (Oberhausen) were tiring after 25 minutes. We then got our chances and scored," said the Belgian defender van Buyten.
Coach Louis van Gaal rested several stars, but Italian forward Luca Toni played for the first time this season in the second half in a return from injury.
Elsewhere, visiting TSG Hoffenheim won a Bundesliga duel 1-0 at Nuremberg from Per Nilsson's header in the 35th. But Borussia Moenchengladbach were ambushed 1-0 by second division Duisburg from an injury-time stunner by Kristoffer Andersen.
Eight second-round matches in total were set for Tuesday and the other eight are Wednesday. dpa
