Mumbai gets VDSL Broadband services by MTNL
The state owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), the top broadband service provider in Mumbai, has introduced 20 Mbps high-speed broadband with Triple Play service in the city.
The service based on VDSL technology is the first ever in the Mumbai telecom circle by any service provider which would help to increase the data speed from 1-2 Mbps to 10-20 Mbps.
Users can enjoy the high speed broadband service at monthly rental of Rs 9000 including 18 Gb free download limit at an average speed of 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps within the distance of 1 Km from the main telephone exchange. The service is aimed to attract corporate sector that can use it as back-up for their internet leased line.
MTNL, having 4.02 lakh connections in Mumbai, is 56.25% owned by the government and offers this service at Rs. 199 per month under the entry level plan. The firm, first in the country to use ADSL 2+ technology, is already offering 3G services in Mumbai and Delhi.
Meanwhile, other telecom player Tata Communications has strengthened its ethernet infrastructure to offer broadband speed up to 100 Mbps in Mumbai.
