Mozambique opens sky to international companies

Maputo - Mozambican aviation authorities on Monday announced the country's airspace will open to international companies in a bid to liberalize the sector and bring it in line with air transport reforms in Africa.

"The national airspace is already open to international traffic of passenger and cargo transportation, in accordance to the Yamoussoukro Declaration, to which Mozambique is a subscriber," Mozambique's Civil Aviation Institute said in a statement.

The Declaration was signed in 1999 in the Ivorian capital by 40 African countries.

Mozambican authorities also hope the measure will stimulate the economy of the country that has become a key tourist destination in southern Africa. dpa
