Moily welcomes apex court judges decision to disclose assets
New Delhi, Aug 27 :Union Law and Justice Minister M. Veerappa Moily on Thursday welcomed the move of Supreme Court judges to make public the details of their assets.
"If they have come forward to disclose it, it is welcome," he said.
However, Moily, said it is for the judges to decide how it should be done.
Moily, was reacting to the decision taken by apex court judges on Wednesday to declare their assets.
"It is welcome. It is for the judges to decide how it should be done because what is best in the interest of the judges, they are the best judge," Moily said.
The issue of declaring the assets of the judicial officers and judges of the higher courts has been haunting the judiciary for quite some time.
"Not that it is new, they were not unwilling but there are certain things for judges unlike (others as) they are not elected people," he said.
Moily, said the government never wanted judges to be embarrassed or inconvenienced. (ANI)
