Millions Of Worshippers Assemble At Mathura, Vrindavan For Special Prayers
Millions of worshippers have assembled at the temple townshipa of Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh for special rituals this month, also known as 'Purushottam Mas', which is an additional month, added to the Hindu calendar and is regarded favorable.
On the event of Purushottam Ekadashi Sunday, a large number of people did "parikrama" of the holy Goverdhan hill near here, which is trusted to have been lifted by Lord Sri Krishna on his little finger in order to save his devotees from heavy rain.
Bollywood actor Govinda was also seen visiting the famed Bankey Bihari temple in Vrindavan on Sunday.
All over Braj Mandal including Agra division's six region Mathura, Agra, Ferozabad, Etah, Mainpuri and Hathras together with Aligarh, Bharatpur in Rajasthan, Morena region of Madhya Pradesh and Palwal in Haryana -- sacred activities are being arranged on a big scale.
In Agra city, the well-known Mathuradheesh temple has made arrangements for one-month long program of festivities, drawing big crowds.
A resident of Vrindavan, Gopal Chaturvedi, stated, "The Purushottam Mas, also called Adhik Mas or Mal Mas, will last till May 14. During this month, Sri Krishna devotees from all over throng the Braj area, particularly Goverdhan and Vrindavan for special programmes." (With Inputs from Agencies)
